"Public Intervention No. 4" is a record of the life ofseven fly-postings on disused or condemned buildingsin inner East London, an area undergoing massiveregeneration. The posters were recorded daily untiltheir ultimate covering over by other posters orpermanent removal. Simple photocopied paper posterswere used to economically express a democratic andsubversive voice. Unlike all other forms masscommunication, such as print and radio, fly-posting isinexpensive and anyone is free to express any opinion,there is no editorial policy. This project takes themedium away from its commercial hijack by corporationssuch as Nike, back to its grass roots of politicaldissent. Referencing the Situationists and theirreclamation of urban areas by individuals for utopianmeans, the posters stick two fingers up to authorityand remind passers-by of others. The various quotestalk of social progress and community interaction inan area where trendy bars have moved in and rents haveskyrocketed.
Through the use of painting, installation, film andconceptual art forms, Verdon is interested in humanrelations and power systems, using references frommodern art, music, architecture, philosophy andliterature.
