Deirdre King is a writer and artist, based in London. She trained at Goldsmith's College in London, and also holds a doctorate from Oxford University and has studied psychoanalysis at the Institute of Group Analysis in London and the London Centre for Psychotherapy. As a writer, she has contributed reviews and articles relating to the arts for a number of publications, mainstream and alternative, on both a freelance and commissioned basis. Her writing also includes press releases and catalogue essays. Particular interests are in psychoanalysis, globalisation and Indian art and she has published in The Times of India, [a-n] Magazine, The Critical Friend, BADI magazine, The Art News Magazine of India, and the International Art Forum, Pilot I and II. She has also been a speaker at international conferences, presenting papers on philosophy and art.
As an artist, King's activities include exhibiting and speaking on her work, as well as curating. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at commercial, non-commercial and alternative venues, primarily in London, Los Angeles and Japan, including Gasworks Gallery, Danielle Arnaud, Kybidou Gallery and Raid Projects. In 2003, she participated in the Los Angeles International at Cherry de los Reyes and has performed in London with the artists' band, The Band of Nod together with the poet John Hegley in 2002. She is currently researching and developing work relating to semantics and the unsaid and the effect of the art market on art.
